DAY 24
Many leaders we talk to have expressed astonishment over the statistic from Barna Research that only 4 percent of Americans and 9 percent of bornagain Christians hold a biblical worldview. Given the vast amount of money spent by the church each year— approximately $31 billion in 20013 (churches representing 49.4 million members)—one is tempted to ask, “What has the church been making, because it sure doesn’t seem like it has been making disciples?” The consequences are staggering. A whopping 40 percent of the baby buster generation were raised by divorced or separated parents. Now the sins of the fathers are being visited on the next generation: Tonight, 33 percent of America’s 72 million children will go to bed in a home without a biological father. And 66 percent of them are not expected to live with both biological parents through age eighteen.4 We are now bearing the full brunt of our failure to disciple men.
Staggering statics show that over 50% of Churches in America have not added to their congregation in 2 years! There are around 4,000 churches closes their doors every year. We have to ask ourselves why?
Every year, 2.7 million church members fall into inactivity. This translates into the realization that people are leaving the church. The United States now ranks third (3rd) following China and India in the number of people who are not professing Christians; in other words, the U.S. is becoming an ever increasing “un-reached people group.”
What is the purpose of your church? What is the purpose of having church?
Only about 20% of people attend church every week. We live in a highly unchurch population group, behind China and India we are the 3rd largest un-churched society. We must have a plan to stop the epidemic of people not hearing the Gospel of Jesus and Churches not being filled with disciples of Jesus.
We must have true biblical disciplship in our lives, we must look at our lives and others everyday. Not look at life from Sunday to Sunday. Real people with real hurts and real problems need us! They need a model of Jesus in their lives. They need someone to show them purpose, show them there is more to life than living from day to day and doing the same things. God gave them a Mission and it is to make disciples that make disciples, to change their communities one person at a time. To really make an impact on their neighbors, their family, their friends, their co-workers. To give them the tools to share the gospel in a real way and give them purpose. To give them hope that they can make a difference.
We all want to make a difference and we hear things on the radio and tv about making an impact and we say: But How? Here is how! Share the Gospel with everyone, your mission is to tell everyone about the mission that Jesus gave us. To get a group of 5 to 10 people that you are sending these messages to each day and loving them into a relationship with Jesus. Giving them the tools to share the Gospel of Jesus. We must go through our phone and find 10 people to contact this week and say I have been changed by this and all you have to do is, watch a video, read the lesson and do the action! If you are not comfortable doing the action yet, then give it a little time. Let Jesus work in them and HE WILL! When they start watching and reading they will see the Gospel in a whole new way!
ACTION STEP FOR TODAY: GET 10 CONTACTS IN YOUR PHONE AND TELL THEM ABOUT THIS PROCESS AND THEN SEND THEM THE TEXT EACH DAY AND THEN FOLLOW UP WITH THEM. IT WILL NOT BE EASY, PEOPLE IN GENERAL HAVE A DESIRE BUT DON’T HAVE THE DRIVE.
